Social Construct Films is thrilled to announce that our feature film, Alyce Kills, was listed as one of “15 Scariest” Halloween Horrors on Variety.
“After impulsively knocking her friend off the roof of a building, an introverted young woman spirals into madness. Actress Jade Dornfeld delivers a tour de force performance as the guilt ridden title character. Her descent into a maelstrom of drugs, sex and psychotic violence is equal parts twisted and tragic…. ‘Alyce Kills’ is a challenging and original work of avant-garde horror.”
Social Construct Films is pleased to announce the launch of our new sales division, now representing the SXSW festival favorite, LICKS, for North American distribution rights (all rights available).
‘LICKS’ follows the story of a young man, D, as he returns to his Oakland neighborhood after two years served in prison for a botched robbery. In the days after his release, we are taken into D’s world and follow him as he decides what direction he wants to take his life after being locked up. “Licks” referring to liquor stores in robbery, is an urban crime drama set in the sprawling projects of East Oakland. The film gives nods to Menace to Society and Boys in the Hood, and is most comparable to Sundance ’13 winner / Weinstein released FRUITVALE STATION.
LICKS premiered at SXSW ’13 and since then the filmmakers have hosted over 10 sold out promo screenings in NY, LA and around the SF Bay Area where the film takes place. The film played Milan International Film Festival to rave reviews, won the programmers award at the Sidewalk Film Festival in Alabama and won 4 awards at the Chelsea Film Festivals in NYC including best picture and best director. LICKS is the debut project of filmmaker Jonathan Singer-Vine.

GO FAR is a documentary about the life of Christopher Rush, an amazingly inspirational human being who was born with muscular dystrophy. Rather than give up, he defied every expectation and lived a life full of happiness, optimism, and endless accomplishments that most able-bodied people would be proud of. Despite having been diagnosed with a life expectancy of two years, he lived until shortly before his 31st birthday.
During his last few months Chris developed an inspirational program called GO FAR (Goals, Obstacles, Focus, Act, Review) that he planned to teach to others who were disabled, troubled youth, and anyone else who needed encouragement and a better path to reaching their goals, regardless of the obstacles. This documentary will serve as his legacy, a message of enduring optimism and hope.
