Social Construct Films is a cutting edge media production and sales company with the mission to seek out the most artistically original, yet commercially viable projects in the world. Once we select a project, we support and guide it through every step of the process: from early script development, packaging talent and financing, through production and post-production. We then work with our foreign and domestic sales and distribution partners to ensure our projects reach the widest audience possible worldwide.

Producer Zak Kilberg launched Social Construct, LLC in 2010, with the intention of exploring socially relevant and meaningful themes, in order to bring engaging stories to the screen, while providing commercial success for independent filmmakers and investors alike.  Over the past several years, Kilberg has been primarily focused on IP acquisition and development financing for a variety of new projects and ventures, including Convergent Media, LLC and Outside the Sandbox, LLC (w/ producer Jason Lust).

His current slate includes the New York Times Bestseller Guantanamo Diary, which is being developed with Benedict Cumberbatch and Oscar-winning director Kevin MacDonald; the New York Times’ “Best Book of the Year” Say Her Name, with producer Bill Horberg and the Oscar-winning company Fabula Films; Black Wall Street with director Tim Story; and many others. Kilberg is also developing a slate of branded TV series projects with a variety of producing partners, including Tim Kring (Heroes), Bruce Cohen (Pushing Daisies), Escape Artists (Equalizer franchise), and Bad Robot (WestWorld).

Kilberg’s completed projects have been acquired by top studios and distributors worldwide, including Universal, Lionsgate, Entertainment One, HBO, Showtime, The Orchard, IFC, and more. Kilberg also produced the short film L TRAIN, from Executive Producer Alexander Payne, which was an official selection at Sundance, winning the “Women in Film” grant for director Anna Musso.

Kilberg has advised and continues to consult for a variety of media companies. In 2014 he joined top entertainment law firm SmithDehn, LLP as a consultant, to help build and oversee their new packaging, financing and sales division, as an additional service offering for their 300+ clients. Prior to joining SmithDehn, Kilberg served as Vice President of Acquisitions and Development at international sales company Imagination Worldwide.

Kilberg graduated Cum Laude in 2004 from University of Hartford’s Hartt School Conservatory, with a Bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts.

Kilberg currently divides his time between his home base in Asheville NC, Los Angeles, NYC, and at film festivals and markets around the world.

 

IZ WEB – HEAD OF DEVELOPMENT

A prolific writer since childhood, Iz Web was the Poet Laureate of her graduating class, and in 1995 she received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature specializing in Fiction into Film, a minor in Filmmaking, and intensive studies in the disciplines of Art, Philosophy, Comparative Religions and Mythology. She wrote, produced, and directed an independent film as well as a number of other short film and documentary projects. She also worked in various aspects of both production and distribution, before moving away from the film industry to pursue a career as a multimedia artist and circus performer. Since then, she has written a novel, several interactive story-based games, a collection of short stories and poems, two screenplays, and numerous scripts for the stage. She is a founding member of The Landing Center for the Living Arts, a creative community, and founder and Director of Asheville based circus company Clan Destiny Circus. In 2013, she joined Social Construct Films, and is also the Director of the Asheville Story Collective, a creative think-tank and collaborative writer’s group focused on creating content for film and television.
